Our Story
Built by boaters. Born from a problem every boater knows.
Steve and Scott have been friends and boaters for years, sharing a love of the water throughout New England. Like most boaters, they take pride in keeping their boats clean. Unfortunately, the birds have other plans.
The idea started with a simple observation.
Seagulls and other water birds treat moored and docked boats like convenient places to perch, scout for food, and leave behind a mess. Beyond being unsightly, droppings can become especially damaging when left to bake in the sun.
Steve began noticing that the problem seemed far less common on sailboats than on powerboats. The difference was right in front of him: rigging.
The solution needed to work like boating actually works.
Steve brought the idea to Scott, and the two began looking at what was already on the market. The problem was not a lack of bird deterrents. It was that the existing options came with compromises.
Too much setup.
A deterrent is less useful when putting it up and taking it down becomes another chore.
Too much to store.
Space on a boat is valuable. Bulky equipment has to earn every inch it takes up.
Not adaptable enough.
Boats come in different sizes and shapes. Protection needed to be configurable for the boat it was actually being used on.
Then came the prototypes.
The idea evolved through years of building, testing, adjusting, and trying again. Each version brought LINEGUARD closer to a system that was simple to use, compact to store, and practical enough to become part of everyday boating.
What if the barrier could disappear when you didn't need it?
That question became the foundation for LINEGUARD.
Steve and Scott landed on a simple idea: create a retractable line system that could reproduce the protective effect of sailboat rigging on virtually any boat.
The system needed to deploy in seconds, adapt to different boat layouts, and retract neatly when it was time to get underway or stow it away.
Years on the water turned the idea into LINEGUARD.
After years of development, testing, and refinement on the waters of New England, Steve and Scott created a retractable bird deterrent built by boaters, for boaters.
